Jen Hammond
Coach Hammond grew up in Northern Virginia playing fast-pitch softball but daydreaming about playing baseball - an option that at the time was not on the table for many female players. She was especially thrilled, for that reason, to learn about DCGB and to support girls playing baseball. She began coaching with DCGB in 2017 and has worked across all age groups with a particular passion for coaching catching and supporting players who wish to continue to pursue baseball at the high school level and beyond.
Coach Hammond will enter her 10th season of coaching high school baseball this spring. She currently serves as the Associate Head Coach and Catching Specialist for the Thomas Jefferson High School Colonials Varsity Baseball Team.
In 2021, Coach Hammond joined the staff of the Alexandria Aces in the Cal Ripken Collegiate Summer League. The Alexandria Aces have reached the championship in each of the last three seasons, winning it all for the first time in team history in 2022. During the 2023 season, Hammond, who remains the only female coach in the league at present, made history when she became the first woman to manage a game in the Ripken League.
Coach Hammond continues to play as her coaching commitments allow - having been a part of the Eastern Women's Baseball Conference for over twenty years. She currently serves as Coach of both the Virginia Flames and the DC Thunder tournament team - and also plays and manages in local adult rec baseball leagues. When she's not coaching or playing, you can find her at Nats Park serving as a ball girl.
